Membership Grows to Eleven Food Banks; Freestore Foodbank Serves 3 Southeast Indiana Counties.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — July 26, 2010 — Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, Inc. and Freestore Foodbank announced today that Freestore Foodbank is joining the Indiana state food bank association, Feeding Indiana’s Hungry.
“Freestore Foodbank has been serving Dearborn, Ohio, and Switzerland Counties for 40 years. We are excited to be working with them in our efforts to spread an awareness of hunger and adding to our state network that provides assistance all across Indiana,” said John Etling, President of Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, Inc. and President of Catholic Charities of Terre Haute.
“With demand for emergency food increasing steadily, it is crucial for food banks to cooperate for the best service for our hungry neighbors,” said John Young, CEO of Freestore Foodbank. “Membership in Feeding Indiana’s Hungry will help us do our best for Indiana counties we serve.”
The Freestore Foodbank is the largest emergency food and services provider in the Tri-State. The organization is a trusted partner to over 325 nonprofit member agencies spread across 20 counties, through which it annually distributes over 12 million pounds of food and other products to more than 200,000 individuals. By providing emergency food distribution, the Freestore Foodbank works to determine the root causes of poverty and food insecurity and is able to provide an array of services (emergency clothing, housing services, job training and others) aimed at creating self-reliance.
