Today as USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue visits Indianapolis, Feeding Indiana’s Hungry calls for an immediate policy shift to protect families that rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP—formerly known as food stamps).
“Recently announced SNAP rule changes will create needless layers of red tape that will do a disservice to hungry Hoosiers,” Emily Bryant, Executive Director of Feeding Indiana’s Hungry said. “Congress has rejected attempts at this policy because they know that tying the hands of those at the state level who are best prepared to respond at the local level is the wrong this to do.”
Recent changes to SNAP were implemented by the Trump/Pence Administration by administrative rule after being defeated in Congress by an extraordinary margin (369-47).
